Our story
Bringing the Pie Since 1995.
In college, the money ran out. I came home from Baltimore, transferred to UDC, and needed a job. My father knew a man named Brother Howard who ran a bean pie bakery. He put me to work.
I apprenticed under him for five years. Along the way, I started Bakery Direct, delivering baked goods straight to people’s doors. When Brother Howard retired, I bought his equipment and went out on my own. Our pies made it onto store shelves up and down the East Coast, including 7-Eleven stores.
I knew how to bake. I didn’t know enough about business yet. I made mistakes, and in 2012 I had to close the doors.
The ovens went cold.
The dream never did.
So I went back to school, earned my bachelor’s and then my MBA, and learned the business side in corporate retail management.
In 2021, I brought all of it back to the kitchen and relaunched my dream as Black Whisk, in the city where I was born. This time we do it our way: small batches, made from scratch, handed to you from our Dessert Van or packed and shipped to your door.
